<image:title>Victory Blog - Victory Float Lounge Comes to Sewickley - FAQ’s</image:title>
<image:caption>When will you reopen? As soon as possible. The paperwork between Fred and Lisa and ourselves is all done. The other business ‘stuff’ is taking a bit longer than we’d prefer, however, that always seems to be the case. As soon as that short list is wrapped up, we will reopen for business. Will you be offering the same services? Yes! We will have floatation therapy, infrared sauna, LED STIM therapy, and Salt/HALO therapy. All of the same services that were previously available to you before. I bought packages but still haven’t used them. Will you be honoring those? To the best of our ability, yes. We’re going through the Acuity booking system and trying to roll over what we can. Keep an eye out for another email to clarify what we’re able to do there, as well as some other offers that will beneficial for everyone that has come to Revitalize in the past. Will it stay Revitalize? No. We will rebrand the location as Victory Float Lounge, so we can keep our social media and systems manageable for Lindsey and myself (and my mom will be joining our staff!).</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - A Story You Won’t Believe: How Contrast Therapy Transformed My Recovery Journey - You see, Lindsey and I moved in together combining my three dogs with her one pup. Also at a time when my two youngest were going through their ‘teenage’ years (yes dogs have those). Magnolia, who lovingly goes by Maggie, at the time was a 200lb English Mastiff who could have been perfectly casted in the movie Mean Girls. There was a six month period or so where she hated, despised, loathed almost any dog she came across besides her brothers and sisters.</image:title>
<image:caption>As we were realizing the signs of this, there was one beautiful sunny day where it all came to a head. A cute little dog was walking the neighborhood minding her own business when Maggie lost it - trying to attack her. I was able to head her off and basically bear hug her and pull guard (a ju jitsu move). As I had her in a pseudo head lock and my grip was slipping, I pulled harder with my legs when POP, I tore my hamstring right off the bone. It hurt - I was seeing stars - I managed to get her back into the house without further damage but I was in trouble.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - A Story You Won’t Believe: How Contrast Therapy Transformed My Recovery Journey - Contrast therapy offers a multitude of benefits that can greatly enhance the recovery journey. First, it improves circulation and blood flow, which is crucial for delivering oxygen and nutrients to injured tissues. This increased blood flow helps accelerate the healing process and reduces the risk of complications. Secondly, contrast therapy helps alleviate pain and inflammation. The cold temperature numbs pain receptors, providing immediate relief from discomfort. Additionally, the alternating hot-cold cycles assist in reducing inflammation by constricting and dilating blood vessels, respectively. This reduction in inflammation not only eases pain but also promotes a more efficient healing environment. Furthermore, contrast therapy enhances joint mobility and flexibility. The heat component of contrast therapy relaxes muscles and increases their elasticity, making it easier to perform stretching exercises and improving range of motion. This increased flexibility plays a crucial role in preventing future injuries and maintaining overall physical well-being.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - A Story You Won’t Believe: How Contrast Therapy Transformed My Recovery Journey - Selfish plug - obviously this is something we offer at Victory Float Lounge in both our Sewickley and Lawrenceville locations.</image:title>
<image:caption>However, you can do this at home like I did! You can create your own contrast therapy routine by using hot and cold packs or alternating between hot and cold showers. Or, go full ham in the bathtub. It's important to remember to start with shorter durations of each temperature and gradually increase the duration as your body adapts.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Embracing Nutrition - What should I eat? A guide to making healthy food choices</image:title>
<image:caption>Making healthy food choices can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially with the abundance of conflicting information available. However, there are some general guidelines that can help us make informed decisions about our diet. Firstly, prioritize whole, unprocessed foods. These are foods that are as close to their natural state as possible, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. They are rich in essential nutrients and free from added sugars, unhealthy fats, and artificial additives. Secondly, aim for a variety of colors on your plate. Different colored fruits and vegetables provide a range of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support overall health. Include a rainbow of produce in your meals to ensure you are getting a diverse range of nutrients.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Embracing Nutrition - The role of exercise in maintaining a healthy diet</image:title>
<image:caption>While good nutrition forms the foundation of a healthy lifestyle, exercise is an equally important component. Regular physical activity not only helps maintain a healthy weight but also supports overall well-being. Engaging in regular exercise helps burn calories, build muscle, and improve cardiovascular health. It can also boost mood, reduce stress, and increase energy levels. When combined with a healthy diet, exercise can enhance the benefits of good nutrition and contribute to a healthier lifestyle. Quick Tip: If you ‘only’ have time for 30 minutes of activity a day, or 30-45 minutes of activity 2-3-4 days per week - prioritize resistance training (weights, bands, kettlebells, etc). Resistance training is proven, when done properly, to increase bone density, decrease insulin sensitivity, and increase metabolism.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Regular floatation therapy offers a plethora of health benefits. The deep relaxation experienced during each session reduces cortisol levels, the stress hormone, leading to improved mental well-being and decreased anxiety. The weightlessness of the float tank helps improve blood circulation, reducing inflammation and promoting faster muscle recovery. Additionally, float therapy has shown promise in managing chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and arthritis. <image:caption>Determining the ideal frequency for float therapy depends on individual goals and preferences. For those seeking relaxation and stress relief, a monthly session may be sufficient. However, for individuals with chronic pain or specific health concerns, more frequent sessions may be necessary. It is recommended to start with weekly sessions for the first month to allow the body to acclimate to the practice. From there, one can adjust the frequency based on their needs and budget. Regular float therapy can provide long-lasting benefits, so finding a balance that works for you is key.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Incorporating cold plunges into your routine can be a great way to improve your mental and physical health - that's what it has done for me. One way to incorporate cold plunges is to take a cold shower in the morning. This can help wake you up and provide an energy boost for the day. Another option is to take a cold plunge after a workout. This can help reduce inflammation and muscle soreness. This has really helped me as a toddler mom - I love hopping into a cold shower for 2 minutes in the morning to get my mind and body in an active state.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Science Behind Cold Plunges and Mental Health - Risks and Precautions to Consider Before Taking a Cold Plunge</image:title>
<image:caption>While cold plunges offer numerous benefits, it's important to consider the risks and precautions before taking one. Cold water can be dangerous, especially for those with certain medical conditions. It's important to talk to your doctor before trying cold water therapy. Additionally, it's important to start slowly and not push yourself too hard. If you feel uncomfortable or lightheaded, it's time to get out of the water. Like I mentioned, realistic expectations. You will hyperventilate and that is okay. Don’t freak out. You. Can. Do. This.</image:caption>

<image:caption>In addition to the mental health benefits, cold plunges also offer numerous physical benefits. The sudden exposure to cold water can help reduce inflammation and muscle soreness. This can be especially helpful for athletes or those who engage in strenuous exercise. Cold plunges have also been shown to improve circulation and boost the immune system. It has also helped me with chronic back pain caused from pregnancy. The biggest benefit that most experience but can’t quite put their finger on- cold plunging gives you a HUGE as well as SUSTAINED boost in dopamine. Dopamine is that wonderful little chemical in our body that gives us MOTIVATION. So, if you’re feeling sluggish or down, PLUNGE!!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - How Sensory Deprivation and Float Tanks Impact the Brain</image:title>
<image:caption>To get technical about what exactly is happening to the brain during a floatation therapy session - the brain enters THETA state. If you’re unfamiliar with brain waves, this is the brain wave associated with, “sleep but are also dominant in deep meditation. Theta is our gateway to learning, memory, and intuition. In theta, our senses are withdrawn from the external world and focused on signals originating from within. It is that twilight state which we normally only experience fleetingly as we wake or drift off to sleep. In theta we are in a dream; vivid imagery, intuition and information beyond our normal conscious awareness.” (According to Brainworks)</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - How Sensory Deprivation and Float Tanks Impact the Brain - Some ideas to get started from Amina Dehbi, a biomedical scientist and blogger:</image:title>
<image:caption>Sensory deprivation is a type of therapy that involves limiting the number of external stimuli on the brain and body. Pain reduction, enhanced creativity, happiness, lower anxiety, reduced stress, and improved athletic performance are all benefits of sensory deprivation. Sensory deprivation can be experienced in float tanks, which involves floating in salt water in a dark, soundproof chamber.er it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference. *Keep in mind floating, flotation therapy, and sensory deprivation or sensory deprivation tanks are all the same thing.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Low Level Light Therapy, a primer on the science - So naturally, Casey and I divided tasks in order to get things up and running as smoothly as we could. He does all the hard stuff like negotiating leases and organizing construction projects, while I do the cool things like figuring out software and researching how to talk about and use our new space and tools. Which led to me getting certified with LightStim, the company that made our light therapy (or LLLT) bed.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Low Level Light Therapy, a primer on the science - I was FLOORED by this information. And naturally, decided to put it to the test myself. So I’ve been making an effort to use the bed regularly - 4x per week. The recommendation is to use it for 40 minutes at a time, 20 minutes for the front of your body, 20 minutes for the back. I don’t always have that much time to devote to this effort, so I’m doing what I can. In part two, I’ll report my short term results (and will update with long term results at a later date).</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Developing Your Self-Care Practice - I’m a giver by nature. This was not an easy pill for me to swallow. My need to take care of everyone else before myself led to burnout over and over again. I always took pride in being a “hard worker,” putting in more hours and taking on more responsibility than everyone around me. But at some point, the constant striving caught up to me. Every day was a chore. I was getting sick more often, and felt like my willpower had evaporated. I spent a large part of 2020 feeling like I was incapable fo working hard ever again.</image:title>
<image:caption>I know I’m not alone when I say that the pandemic affected my self-care practice deeply. I could no longer run out for a coffee with a friend, and Zoom calls didn’t seem to fill that need in the same way. The delineation between work and life narrowed down to nothing - I increased my online client load and drew exactly zero boundaries for myself about my availability. I wanted to be the most helpful coach I could be, and I knew all of my clients were having a rough time too. I started drinking more, staying up later, sleeping in later. My workouts took a nosedive.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Developing Your Self-Care Practice - I never put on my own oxygen mask, so eventually I ran out of air to help others. When we opened Victory Float Lounge in September, it was the catalyst I needed to start reevaluating my self-care and habits. Floating had previously been a huge stress reliever and physical recovery modality in my life, and I finally had access to it again. I used floating as a motivator to make other changes in my life. Doing something so good for myself made it easier to start incorporating other practices that I know are helpful for me. I’ve found floating in particular to be a massively useful means of self-care. I never realize how much I crave the lack of stimulation until I get it. We get so used to the constant noise of modern life that we don’t realize how overwhelming it is until we’re faced with true silence. It often feels like my brain is taking a nap when I float. A much needed nap.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Floating for Different Goals - The Problem-Solving Float</image:title>
<image:caption>Often I’ll get in the float tank with a specific “problem” in mind that I want to work out. Why? Because it’s hard to really think through an issue in real life when there are constant distractions pulling you from doing something difficult. I like to work through problems while I’m still fairly alert, so the problem-solving float is best done in the morning or early afternoon. While I’m taking my pre-float shower, I’ll remind myself of the “goal” I have for in the tank. Once I’m in, I’ll usually opt for total sensory deprivation (one of the cool things about the tanks at Victory Float Lounge is that you get to decide whether the light, starlights, or sound are on while you’re in the tank, AND you can change your mind at any time). During the first part of the float, I let my thoughts run at will. Trying to control what your mind is doing in the early parts of your session doesn’t usually end well. Once they start to slow down, I can turn to the problem at hand. This gives me plenty of time to think without distraction and gives me no excuse to procrastinate - what else am I going to do with that time?</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Couples Floats</image:title>
<image:caption>There is way more space in there than even we realized. It’s one thing to float by yourself and travel around the tank blissfully unaware. It’s another thing to get a second body in there and realize you still have A TON OF ROOM. What I didn’t account for was the length of the tank - meaning you don’t have to float side by side. You can stagger and give yourself even more space. It was comforting. It was nice sharing the experience with someone because even though we couldn’t talk (you can, but it’s tough to hear each other), just having their presence there with you was calming. I could see this being a really comfortable way to try floatation therapy if someone has any reservations about the experience. It’s the best pre game. As soon as we got out we were both ready for dinner and drinks. Unfortunately we didn’t schedule things that way so we had to go back to work! However, our next date night will start off with a couples float (and maybe your’s should too)!</image:caption>

<image:caption>A quick shower for each of us. It was nice having a helping hand to lather up those hard to reach places. And a few minutes later we were in the tank. Lindsey put me next to the controls, so we agreed to lights off but we would leave the music on for the whole float. Once we got that situated, we were floating peacefully, side by side. We started off holding hands because we bumped into each other and it was just a natural reaction to reach out in the dark. As we settled into our environment, we eventually let go of each other and BOOM, it felt like we were floating alone, in our own tanks. The float was too short for Lindsey, but just long enough for me. She’s been hitting 75-90 minutes consistently since we opened. I’ve been in the 45-60 minute range, mainly because of some added stress and anxiety of small business life. After we got out, we did a quick recap together…</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Couples Floats</image:title>
<image:caption>What we didn’t expect was almost as many people asking, “can we float with someone else?” Lindsey and I were really scratching our heads. We had always floated alone. In fact, we really didn’t want to float together, because, you know, cooties. But we warmed ourselves up to the idea of couples floating, and introduced it after our soft opening in September. We’ve welcomed a ton of friends, couples, and partners into our float suites for a couples experience, and the feedback has been great. But something was missing…we hadn’t done a couples float ourselves! And we felt like impostors. How can we offer something without having gone through that experience ourselves? And as we looked at the calendar, February 14th was staring us in the face (dun dun dunnnnn) and realized we had to get in the tank together BEFORE Valentine’s day weekend. So we blocked out a slot for ourselves last weekend, and got right down to it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Lindsey’s Float Story - Floating was not something I expected to like. A few posts back I mentioned that I’d always considered myself to be an “anxious person” - like being jittery and constantly on edge was a personality trait at the core of my being. So the concept of getting into a little tank and floating around for an hour with no light or sound seemed terrifying. My thoughts were already all over the place and truthfully, pretty negative and pessimistic, so I didn’t want to do anything that might amplify it. I met Casey in 2016 and we were fast friends. Within the first few weeks of our knowing each other, he’d pushed me to start journaling and doing a gratitude practice where I literally had to text him things I was grateful for every morning. It was helping, so for a birthday present he gifted me with three 60-minute floats. I put off going for awhile, but Casey persisted, and I hate to be ungrateful, so I went.</image:title>
<image:caption>And it was truly one of the first times I’d ever felt at peace. Like my brain just let go of the death grip (on worrying about the future). The background noise was gone, and my mind could rest. It was bliss, and I was hooked. The second time I floated, I was able to watch my anxious, pessimistic thoughts float by as though they were on clouds, something a dozen therapists had instructed me to do before. I never had success with it, but I could do it in the tank.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Lindsey’s Float Story</image:title>
<image:caption>Training was intense, time consuming, and exhausting. I needed to use every tool in my arsenal to recover from those workouts, which included floating. I already knew the weightlessness would be a godsend to my joints after heavy deadlifts and long, long runs each weekend. I also knew I was likely in desperate need for more magnesium. So floating was an obvious winner. What I did NOT realize was how useful floating would be for my mental game. I was confident that I would finish both events, but obviously I had goals for each. Notably, I really wanted a sub-4 hour marathon time. My half-marathon PR put me in range for about a 3:50 finish, which was my real A goal.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Casey’s First Float - Through that podcast, I got acquainted with both floating and Onnit - a supplement company in Austin, Texas. I was a nationally ranked powerlifter at the time, and was awarded a sponsorship with this up and coming company, which eventually meant trips to Austin. At 25 years old this was a dream.</image:title>
<image:caption>On one of these trips to Austin, I went with the Onnit team to Zero Gravity Float Institute. I knew about floating from the podcast and had done a bunch of research but hadn’t found anywhere to float in Pittsburgh. Looking back, I believe there were one or two tanks in the city but I just wasn’t looking hard enough.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Casey’s First Float - If I’m being honest, the experience was a let down! The float studio was beautiful. The tanks were huge and welcoming. But I was a mess. I think I had a cup of coffee an hour or two before going in, so I laid down and my brain bounced off the walls for an hour. It was certainly not the magical experience I had made it out to be in my mind after researching it and hearing about it constantly from Joe Rogan.</image:title>
<image:caption>But if you know me, or you get to know me, the obstacle is the way. I was going to ‘figure out floating,’ come hell or high water. So I came home and found a float studio, and immediately went back with a fresh approach. CUE THE MAGIC. The combination of not being caffeinated and experiencing sensory deprivation for the second time was the sweet spot. I zenned out in the tank and was disappointed that it didn’t last longer when the exit track started playing.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Casey’s First Float - I began using sensory deprivation as a way to recover from competitive powerlifting - a sport in which you progressively overload your body in an attempt to become as strong as possible, resulting in CNS (central nervous system) fatigue. And floating is the perfect way to help it recover - turning on your parasympathetic response, dropping cortisol levels and blood pressure, not to mention taking the pressure off of your joints with the weightless effect it provides.</image:title>
<image:caption>As my competitive powerlifting days abruptly ended, I began coaching and training others, which opened the door for me to share the value of this experience. I had a client that was a high achieving business owner that trusted me and went through a float experience to alleviate some daily stress. I got a text immediately after his first float… “We need to bring these big tanks to Pittsburgh!” And in short, Victory Float Lounge was born, years after my first float experience.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - What is floating?</image:title>
<image:caption>The float tank was designed to provide total sensory deprivation for users. Once inside the tank, you have the option to turn off all sound and all light. Once you get acclimated, you’ll feel as though you’re floating on nothing, in nothing - the water temperature matches your skin temperature, so you lose track of where you stop and the water starts. In a world where sensory overload is the norm, the tank is a welcome relief. But let’s pay particular attention to one word above: options. Our tanks give you the option to keep the ambient light on, to keep the starlights on, and to keep the music playing throughout your time in the tank. They can be adjusted at any point by simply pressing a button. We’ve seen many clients new to floating that start by keeping just the starlights and music on, then trying starlights off on their second float, then dive into full sensory deprivation by their third float. And some people NEVER go full sensory deprivation. It’s whatever you want when you get in the tank. Those are the basics!</image:caption>
</image:image>

<image:title>Blog - What is floating?</image:title>
<image:caption>Put simply, just under a foot of water and 1,500 POUNDS of epsom salts. I joke when people come in that even if you sink every time you try to swim, you will without a doubt float when you’re in these tanks. Once you lie back, you feel how effortless it all is. Those epsom salts hold you up, allowing you to defy gravity and take all the pressure off your aching joints. It also gives you a big old dose of magnesium, a mineral that 75% of Americans aren’t meeting their daily requirements. That’s part of why many of our clients say they get the best sleep after they come in to float - magnesium is a natural stress reliever.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - What is floating? - You’ll be floating in a 6.5’ x 7.5’ ROOM, with more than enough space to move around. Our ceilings are over 7’ high and covered with starlights that can be turned on and off during your float experience. To say these float rooms are expansive is an understatement. There’s so much space in there we’ve even introduced couples floats - two people in the pod at the same time - and even they still have enough room to float uninterrupted.</image:title>

<image:title>The Float Process</image:title>
<image:caption>A checklist on how to float at VFL It’s a very simple process, but if you’ve never floated before, this is a good 3 minute read on what to expect… If you need to use the restroom, please do so before you float. First, get comfortable in you room. You’ll notice a few items - a bath towel, washcloth, and hand towel; a makeup/wet wipe; A&D Ointment; ear plugs. We recommend using earplugs. You’ll want to put those in before you shower. Ball them up and stick them in your ears. If you have ANY cuts or chafing, we also recommend using the A&D ointment before you get in the tank. If you forget, you’ll notice stinging for a few minutes, but it will dissipate. Pre-Float Shower Your first shower will use Castile soap. This is a gentle way to remove the natural oils in your hair and on your body and helps us keep the tanks clean. It is in the bottle labeled “BEFORE & AFTER,” so you can’t miss it. You’ll have 5 minutes to get acclimated and shower. We recommend showering at a lukewarm temperature before floating - the water in the tank is skin temperature, so a hot shower beforehand may make the first few minutes in the tank feel chilly. At the 5 minute mark, you’ll hear a woman’s voice letting you know it’s time for your float to begin, at which point you can step in, lie back, and relax (don’t forget to close the door, although this is optional!) If you finish showering early, feel free to step into the tank and hit the music button to start your float early. The Float Open the door and step carefully into your tank. There’s plenty of space and the floor is designed to grip your feet, so no worries about sliding. Once in the tank, you’ll notice a few things. First, the three controls. The buttons are labeled for the underlighting (the colored light you saw illuminating the room when you walked in), the night sky option, and the sound button. Pressing either of the light buttons will turn them on and off. Pressing the sound button will increase the volume, until it eventually turns the sound off. Pressing it again will turn the sound back on. There is a halo attached to the back of the door. You can use it to support your neck if need be. We also provide a spray bottle with fresh water to clean your eyes/face with if you happen to get salt in your eyes. Once you’re familiar with your surroundings, lie back and enjoy. We recommend some simple breathing exercises as you settle into your float. If at any point you find yourself disoriented, you can either stand up to find the door, or press yourself wall to wall to find the control buttons. The door cannot lock, so all you have to do is press on it to open it. Everything in the tank is fully within your control, so make it your own. Post-Float Once your float over, a message will play letting you know it’s time to shower. If your lights were off, they’ll gradually come back on (to wake you up, just in case!). Find your way to the door and use the handles to stand back up. Feel free to use any of the shower products during your second shower. A few minutes after the message indicating the end of your float, you’ll hear the tank start its self-cleaning cycle! When you step out, feel free to chat with us at the desk about your experience. BUT, if you’d prefer to stay in the zone, just flash us a peace sign on the way out and we’ll know to leave you to your own devices.</image:caption>

<image:title>Flotation Therapy Lawrenceville, PA - Benefits of Floating</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the beautiful things about flotation therapy is that people can come with different burdens and experience some relief from the same process. Whether that be an easing of pain from the ability to float and reduce pressure on joints and muscles, or the experience of going full sensory deprivation and letting your mind clear as you lose sensation of stimuli around you, floating is an excellent way for your body to relax and recharge. At Victory Float Lounge in Lawrenceville, we understand that not every floater is at the same level when it comes to experience. The thought of floating in a dark, quiet room can be a little unsettling for new floaters. However, at our tanks, we allow for a combination of lights and/or music to be on or off while floating. Our floaters can change these at any time during their sessions. We have found that many new floaters will start out with lights on and then slowly lower the lights as they become acclimated to their new method of relaxation. The choice is up to you!</image:caption>
